An awareness session was held at Salwan Boys Senior Secondary School on 19th September 2024 as part of the Legal Literacy Club. The session, conducted by the Central District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with NALSA and DSLSA, focused on “Good Touch-Bad Touch” and “Cyber Bullying.”
Sh. Akash Krishna, an advocate from Tis Hazari Court, led the session. He educated students about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000. Students learned to identify inappropriate touches and were informed that any sexual activity involving minors is punishable under the POCSO Act.
He explained the penalties under Sections 7 and 8 of the POCSO Act, which include up to 5 years of imprisonment. The dangers of cyberbullying, online harassment, and child pornography were also discussed. These offenses, punishable under Section 67B of the IT Act, can lead to up to 5 years of imprisonment and fines. He also warned about the risks of online gaming addiction, which can lead to blackmail and, in extreme cases, suicide.
Students asked about the punishments for minors involved in crimes and the differences between correctional facilities for boys and girls. This session successfully raised awareness of legal rights and personal safety.
